Formula One is the back for the second race of the season-opening double header! The Chinese Grand Prix will also mark the first Sprint Race of the season.


George Russell won the opening race of the season, and will surely be looking to continue his success in China.

This year's Australian Grand Prix will be held at the Shanghai Audi International Circuit on Sunday March 15th at 7am UK time (3pm local time).


The two Mercedes are top of the championship standings currently, but many drivers behind will be aiming to beat the Silver Arrows.

.The Sprint Recap


Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton took pole for the Chinese Sprint Race.


On lap 1, Hamilton maintained the lead, fighting off challenges from Max Verstappen and the McLaren drivers.


On lap 4, there was contact between Jack Doohan and Liam Lawson.


Lap 10 saw a battle between Pierre Gasly and Isack Hadjar. Just five laps later, Oscar Piastri moved up to second position.


On lap 19, Lewis Hamilton crossed the line to win the Sprint, with Oscar Piastri in second and Max Verstappen in third place.


The Grand Prix


Oscar Piastri claimed pole for the Chinese Grand Prix and successfully maintained his lead on lap 1. During lap 1, Lando Norris and George Russell battled, whilst Gabriel Bortoleto spun.


Lap 4 saw a retirement for Fernando Alonso after a brake fire.


On lap 16, after a series of pit stops, Alex Albon took the lead but just two laps later Piastri reclaimed the lead. During this, Oliver Bearman was charging through the field.


Yuki Tsunoda sustained damage on lap 46 but it was from following the car in front rather than an accident.


On lap 56, Oscar Piastri won the race with Lando Norris in second and George Russell in third.


What to expect at the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix


The weather for the Chinese Grand Prix looks to be good, and the lack of forecast rain could mean that we have a dry but exciting Grand Prix and Sprint.

Several teams will be wanting to improve on their Australian Grand Prix results. One such team is Aston Martin who have faced significant issues since pre-season testing.


Oscar Piastri will also be wanting to improve, after not starting his home race. The Sprint will also give him an extra boost.
