After three rounds of the FIA Formula 2 season, Dutch driver Richard Verschoor finds himself top of the standings after a stunning start to his season.
As always, people have something to say. Verschoor, a Macau Grand Prix victor, is in his fifth season of F2 and his third (non consecutive) one with MP Motorsport where he has found a home where he can compete.

While five seasons at a lower tier is unusual, it’s not new - there are other examples of drivers competing in lower formula and still going on to compete at top level. Notably, Felix Rosenqvist - an IndyCar regular with Meyer Shank Racing - spent five seasons at Formula 3 level before going on to big things and is like Verschoor, a Macau Grand Prix champ. Other examples who spent similar amounts of time in lower formula include Marcus Ericsson, Rio Haryanto, Jolyon Palmer and more recently, Zhou Guanyu who spent three years each at Formula 3 and Formula 2 level. Verschoor is certainly not in a class of his own.

It remains to be seen what Verschoor’s talent ceiling is and where it will take him, but there’s not doubt his consistency, calm manner and hard working attitude will get him all kinds of success. From fighting to make ends meet to race in Formula 2, to comeback victories, the Dutchman continues to make waves and continues to be one to watch.

We wish Richard the best of luck for the rest of the season.
