French car manufacturer Citroën has committed to joining Formula E from Season 12 onwards, marking its full-time return to top-flight motorsport.
Citroën will take the entry previously occupied by fellow Stellantis brand Maserati, which exits the championship despite taking a handful of victories in the past couple of seasons at the hands of Maximilian Günther and Season 8 champion Stoffel Vandoorne.
Making a name for itself in categories including the World Rally Championship and World Touring Car Championship, as well as multiple victories in the Dakar Rally, Citroën now hopes to etch its name into single-seater history as it gears up for an assault on the all-electric Formula E World Championship.

Speaking about its upcoming entry into Formula E, Citroën says it anticipates a "new challenge" in "an electric, innovative and passionate adventure that embodies our values and our vision for the mobility of tomorrow.
"Citroën is returning to motorsport, an arena that shaped its history and legend - motorsport in its most visionary form: an 100% electric, responsible and committed competition with popular races in the heart of cities, a young, committed, connected audience and a technological, international showcase for the future of mobility."
According to a report by The Race, Formula E's newest team has already signed Nick Cassidy alongside two-time champion Jean-Eric Vergne for its first tilt at the championship. While an official announcement hasn't been made yet, Cassidy's exit from Jaguar was made official in July ahead of his expected move to a Stellantis team, ultimately Citroën.
