Colton Herta has been announced as the official Test Driver for Cadillac F1 Team in 2026, and leaves his role as driver with Andretti in IndyCar as a result. He’ll be racing in Formula 2 alongside the role, with his team to be confirmed at a later date.

Cadillac have already announced Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez as their drivers for 2026, but the signing of Herta states a clear intention to get the American racer in an F1 car before too long.

Herta leaves IndyCar after seven seasons, nine wins, 19 podiums and 16 pole positions.

Signing with Cadillac marks success for Herta at the fourth attempt, after failed attempts with Sauber, McLaren (with whom he tested) and Red Bull - the latter of which as recent as 2023.

Herta has confirmed he’ll be in F2, and is rumoured to be joining PREMA Racing.
