Felix Rosenqvist wins maiden Indianapolis 500

Álex Palou started the 'Greatest Spectacle in Racing' from first position. But it was the Meyer Shank Racing car of Felix Rosenqvist who prevailed and avoided the collisions and chaos to win the 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500.

As soon as the green flag flew, Alexander Rossi was on the charge. He took the lead of the race but was soon overtaken by Palou. Until Lap 17, the two continued to swap positions.

On Lap 18, the first Caution was flown for a crash from Ryan Hunter-Reay that also collected Katherine Legge. In the meantime, Romain Grosjean took the lead. However, the green flag did not last for long as Ed Carpenter spun and hit the wall, causing a second caution.

Racing resumed on Lap 31 and Caio Collet moved into the lead. One lap later, Palou returned to. the front of the field and further back Scott McLaughlin was charging.

Conor Daly and Caio Collet swapped the lead on Lap 34. Palou returned to the front on Lap 42 and battled with his Chip Ganassi teammate Scott Dixon until Lap 92 when there was a third caution. The caution was caused by Will Power, who spun and his car was leaking liquid onto the track. At the same time, Rossi had pulled into the pit lane and his carr was smoking, causing him to retire.

On Lap 106, a red flag was called following reports of rain.

After 15 minutes, the race was restarted under caution. After three laps behind the pace car, the green flag was shown and Palou took the lead. Later on in the same lap, David Malukas claimed first position.

For the next six laps, Malukas and Palou continued to swap the lead of the race.

Another caution was thrown on Lap 116 due to track conditions and rain detected at Turn 4.

Racing resumed on Lap 126 but was soon halted again a caution was called for Josef Newgarden who hit the wall. Six laps later the green flag was once again shown and Daly took the lead.

From laps 140 until 147, Scott McLaughlin and Palou were swapping positions. Lap 148 saw Scott Dixon take over the lead meanwhile Christian Rasmussen was forced to retire as his car had lost power.

Several drivers including Kyle Kirkwood, Dixon, Kyffin Simpson, Rosenqvist, Malukas, Palou and Pato O'Ward swapped the lead from Lap 149 until Lap 186. A caution was shown on Lap 192 as Collet hit the wall with massive force, causing his car to set on fire.

As a result, a red flag was shown once again. After 10 minutes, racing resumed and Marcus Armstrong shot to the front of the field. Another caution was shown as Mick Schumacher brushed the wall but it was ended on Lap 200, meaning that there would be a one-lap shootout.

Malukas took the lead, holding on until the last moment and he was overtaken by Rosenqvist on the finish line.
