Ferrari junior Taponen graduates to F2 with ART

Tuukka Taponen will race in Formula 2 in 2027, stepping up from Formula 3 after two seasons. The Ferrari junior has signed with ART Grand Prix, and will be the first Finnish driver to race in F2 since Niko Kari in 2018.

Taponen debuted in F3 in 2025, with the team he’s now joined in F2 - ART - scoring three podiums in his maiden campaign, helping him finish inside the championship top 10 as a rookie.

For 2026, he switched to MP Motorsport, scoring one win, three total podiums and two pole positions - improving his championship placing to third overall, behind title rivals Ugo Ugochukwu and Freddie Slater.

Taponen: ““I believe we have a good chance of fighting for the front positions right away," said Taponen. "ART is a team I know well, and I know how they work. F2 will introduce a new car version next season, along with regulation changes, which will level the playing field for all teams.

"It's also great to return to a team that already knows me and wanted me back. I'm confident I'll get the support I need from the team to take this next step and pursue my goal of reaching Formula 1.”
