Quite often on the formula ladder we come across drivers who you become slightly dumbfounded that they haven’t been picked up by an F1 team for an academy or reserve role. Here are five drivers who impressed me in 2025 who deserve F1 attention.
Joshua Dürksen

When Joshua Dürksen stepped up from FREC to Formula 2 at the same time as Kimi Antonelli many eyebrows were raised as to why this relatively unknown Paraguayan was making such a big step.
He quickly adapted to the F2 car and was one of the stars of the 2024 season, finishing 10th overall.
In 2025 he took another step forward finishing ninth, winning twice and taking a further six podiums as he proved to be one of the stars of the season. He’s back for more Formula 2 in 2026, switching from AIX Racing to current teams’ champions, Invicta Racing.
Alex Dunne

Irish driver Dunne was employed as part of the McLaren Development Programme but with two rounds of the season in F2 he split with the Woking team.
He had a strong rookie season in F2, leading many rounds of the season and taking two wins and seven total podiums as he ended the season fifth overall.
Rumours have linked him with Alpine after speculation a deal with Red Bull fell through. He’s back with Rodin in F2 again in 2026.
Roman Staněk

Czech racer Staněk was one of the unsung heroes of the season in Formula 2 as he partnered Champion Leonardo Fornaroli for Invicta.
He took five total podiums, winning once and taking the battle to his teammate without hindering opportunities for himself or his teammate and finishing 10th overall.
Rumours are linking him with a switch to the Japanese Super Formula series as well as an F1 reserve role with an unnamed team.
Théophile Naël

Naël was one of the stars of the F3 season and many were surprised to see he’ll not make the jump to F2, with an eight place championship finish.
The French driver took three season podiums and multiple points finishes for MP Motorsport and will switch to Campos for his sophomore campaign.
His fine form continued post season, winning at the famous Macau Formula Regional World Cup.
Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak

In his second Formula 3 season, Inthraphuvasak made a spectacular improvement on his rookie year, jumping from 24th with AIX in 2024, up to seventh with Campos.
The Thai driver took two wins as he helped Campos to the teams’ championship alongside Nikola Tsolov and Mari Boya. He’s made his F2 debut now (with Trident) and for 2026, he’s making the full time step up - racing for ART Grand Prix.
