Russell wins Canadian Grand Prix Sprint Race ahead of Norris and Antonelli

George Russell started the Sprint Race from pole position ahead of his Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli and the two McLaren cars. Despite several charges from behind, the Briton was able to take the win.

Prior to the start of the race, Lance Stroll taken back to pit lane due to a front suspension issue but was able to start the Sprint.


On Lap 1, Russell was able to maintain his lead despite Antonelli's attempts to take over first position. Just a few cars behind, Lewis Hamilton looked strong but was no match for the Mercedes duo.


Lap 5 saw Isack Hadjar reporting that his Red Bull had engine issues. On the same lap, Antonelli was trying for the lead, edging closer and closer to Russell.


On Lap 7, Antonelli had two massive off-track moments whilst in pursuit of the lead and as a result was dropped to third place with Lando Norris moving up to second.


After his earlier engine issues, Hadjar pulled into the pits and seemingly retired on Lap 9 but just one lap later he was back out on track. On Lap 18, Fernando Alonso retired from the Sprint Race.


Lewis Hamilton had a brush with the Wall of Champions, hitting it on Lap 20 and Nico Hülkenberg was given a 10-second time penalty for cutting the corner..


On Lap 23, Antonelli and Norris were battling for second place but the Mercedes driver went off track.


Russell went on to win the Sprint Race with Norris in second and Antonelli in third.
