Wharton signs with Trident for 2027 F2 season

James Wharton will race for Trident Motorsport in the 2027 FIA Formula 2 season, graduating from Formula 3 after two seasons.

Wharton, 20, took two wins over his two full campaigns, but plus and additional two podiums as he fought over two ever competitive F3 seasons.

The Australian has already made his Formula 2 bow, stepping to race in the penultimate round of the 2025 season in Qatar - retiring from the Sprint Race and ending the Feature Race 19th, with his new Trident team.

Wharton on his move: “I really can’t put into words what this opportunity for 2027 means to me,” said Wharton. “To be able to return to TRIDENT after racing with them in 2025 is something really special. We worked very well together and they are a very prestigious team that has done a great job over the last few seasons.
