Mexico in recent seasons has become a popular destination for teams to hand outings to young, or rookie drivers in Free Practice sessions. As such, that theme continues this year with seven drivers announced for the outing at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

Ferrari

The Scuderia are handing an outing to their World Endurance Championship driver Antonio Fuoco who has been part of the Prancing Horse family for 10 years, but has not taken part in any official session, and this one will mark his debut.

McLaren

McLaren are pleasing the home crowd in Mexico, handing a home F1 debut to IndyCar vice-champion Pato O’Ward after previous sessions in Abu Dhabi.

Red Bull

Red Bull are handing a second FP1 session to teenage driver Arvid Lindblad, having given him a previous outing to the Brit at his home Grand Prix. He’s racing his rookie season in Formula 2 with Campos Racing and is hotly tipped to be in the Red Bull sister team, Racing Bulls in F1 in 2026.

Alpine

Paul Aron has already made two FP1 outings this season however, not for Alpine. The French team had an agreement to send him to the Stake team where he sat in at the British Grand Prix and in Hungary. He’ll make his first Alpine outing in front of the Mexican crowd.

Haas

One person who did make an FP1 outing for Alpine was Ryō Hirakawa at his home Grand Prix in Japan, before debuting in FP1 with Haas in Bahrain. The WEC driver will step in once again, and with Ollie Bearman perilously close to a ban, being race ready and familiar with the car could prove very important.

Racing Bulls

Ayumu Iwasa will make his second FP1 outing of the year, but his first with RB having made the previous outing with Red Bull in Japan. He’s third in the Super Formula standings at present, with two races left and is very much in the battle for the title there.
