Alonso announces he’ll be staying with Aston Martin through 2027, Stroll continues

Fernando Alonso has put to bed any suggestion of retiring at the end of the season with the announcement he’ll be staying to race with Aston Martin in 2027 - alongside Lance Stroll.

In a season where the team has been dogged by reliability and low development, rumours have swirled over whether or not the 45 year old Spaniard and two time F1 champion would continue racing - but those rumours are now gone and Alonso will continue through next season alongside his current teammate Stroll.

Alonso has scored the team’s only points this season and in his statement on social media, says “I still feel fast” with a coy “I will retire from F1…but not yet” statement.

Lance Stroll: "I'm very happy to continue with Aston Martin Aramco for the long term. I've been on this journey since the beginning and I believe we have the resources and the people to become a winning team.”

Alonso: "I'm very happy to sign a new contract with Aston Martin Aramco. I took my time to make this decision, but racing is my life, my passion, and I know I still have the speed and determination to compete at the highest level. I'm committed for the long term with this team and to helping us succeed.“
