Cowdenbeath FC might not mean a lot to very many racing fans but they happen hold one of very few racetracks in Scotland.
Knockhill is by far the most notable, but Cowdenbeath FC from Fife, who play at Central Park are also home to the Cowdenbeath Racewall.

Around the pitch, between the stands and the grass, lies an oval circuit which hosts stock car racing, banger racing, and Ministox (stock cars for junior drivers) among other series’.

The circuit opened for use in 1965, and ran races and events consistently through to 1986, before closing due to a lack of interest. However in 1989, the circuit was resurrected by ‘Gordon McDougall Promotions’ and took Formula 2 stock car meetings alongside.
Given the nature of the stadium, and the existing grass where football is played, the oval is incredibly tight, and provides a real challenge to racers, and being so closed in the atmosphere is well renowned, with the ‘Racewall Roar’ clear and audible during events.

So while Cowdenbeath and their footballing heroes like Liam Buchanan, Graeme Brown, Craig Levein and Greg Stewart may not be recognised to race fans, this hidden gem racetrack is something very unique and something to tick off a bucket list, especially if you’re a fan of both football and racing.
